CLARK FREEPORT --- The management of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) said the airport Emergency Services personnel and equipment are prepared for disaster response activities in the surrounding communities that would be affected by calamities amidst the threats of typhoons.
CIAC President and CEO Victor Jose I. Luciano said “CIAC is very much ready for rescue and relief operations to those communities hit by disasters.”
Luciano late last week met with officials and officers of CIAC were they discussed preparations for disaster response efforts such as rescue and relief operations, divertion of flights at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), and the readiness of CIAC’s Emergency Services to extend assistance to those areas hit by a calamity.
Earlier, six commercial aircrafts were diverted at the DMIA after heavy rains and congestions occurred at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) making it inaccessible for them to land in the area. The aircrafts were able to land safely at DMIA.
“This only proves that DMIA is capable of handling diversions of flights during times of emergencies brought about by natural calamities,” Luciano stressed.
“DMIA is ready for any eventuality,” he added.
Federico Primero Jr., manager of the CIAC Emergency Services said that his team is ready to accommodate assistance especially for the influx of diversion of flights at DMIA during natural calamities, adding that they are also ready to extend assistance including medical support to those areas hit by disaster.
Primero said that CIAC is equipped with four firetrucks and two ambulances that would be ready to response in emergency rescue and relief operations.
He also said that the United States Armed Forces had extended support by providing two more firetrucks which are on standby at the Crash Fire Rescue (CFR) inside DMIA in case of emergency at the airport during the height of typhoons.
