DOT stirs travel
trade players to help
typhoon victims

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 3 sounded an appeal to the members of the travel trade sector in Pampanga to start a relief operation campaign to help thousands of victims of the recent typhoon Ondoy in Zambales.
The membership is composed of the Pampanga Agents Travel Society led by president Danny Cerdena, Alliance of Travel and Tour Agencies of Pampanga led by its president Belen Guzman, and the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Pampanga led by its president Marco Nepomuceno.
Regional Director Ronaldo Tiotuico said that in due time, these associations made headway in gathering more than P300,000 worth of cash and goods from their members in a matter of one week including donations from homeowners of Sta. Maria Village Association in Balibago, Angeles City.
The first to respond to the call is the president of Pentravel and Tours, Josefina Villanueva, who generously parted ways with her P100,000 hard-earned cash, the travel agencies association donated another P100,000 in membership dues, plus goods and clothing materials to boot.
Some 20 members of these organizations were on hand October 4, Sunday, to pack all the more than 2,000 bags of goodies. They are all set to deliver these relief goods on October 8 in Botolan, Zambales with Governor Amor Deloso expected to be on hand to welcome the benefactors.
The wing commander of 600th Air Base Wing in Clark, B/Gen Francisco Cruz, has been tapped to handle the transport of goods to Zambales.
Meanwhile, the regional office of the tourism department is still accepting donations – in cash or in kind – for typhoon victims. Please contact the DOT satellite office at Marlim Mansions Hotel, Diamond Subd., Balibago, Angeles City, Tel. No. (045) 625-8525 or 961-2612, email at celtour@yahoo.com
