CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- The City Government here led by Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez along with other officials and representatives from city departments spearheaded the “Operation Tulong” to Marikina City, the hardest hit locality by typhoon Ondong.
The relief goods consists of some P75,000 worth of canned goods and groceries and 3,000 pieces of bread, 100 cavans of rice, 200 boxes of bottled water.
Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando describes its city as a “war zone”. “Nothing was left, even our City Hall was heavily damaged” she said.
However, she assured that the city would be return to its usual state.
Meanwhile, she extended her warmest thank you to Rodriguez for travelling hundreds of kilometers to show his concern and give assistance to the so-called “Shoe Capital of the Philippines.”
Rodriguez, upon seeing the situation, pledged to lend the city’s new stainless water truck carrying hundreds of liters of potable water for the typhoon victims’ consumption. He even pledge for manpower assistance.
“The city would continue to extend its assistance until this city (Marikina) is rehabilitated” he added.
Rodriguez also said that he instructed his city administrator to organize the city’s villages and collect used clothing and other materials. He likewise proposed that every village can prepare food and be delivered to Marikina since the market there was devastated. (Story by Bong Ortaliz)
