Lapids visit 9 flooded Pampanga towns
APALIT, Pampanga--- Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid and son, Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) general manager Mark Lapid, recently visited nine towns of Pampanga to distribute relief goods to flood victims.
The Lapids first motored to San Juan Bano in Arayat, Pampanga where they condoled with the families of the 12 people killed by a landslide. They also handed several bags of relief goods through the barangay officials.
On board a convoy of trucks, the Lapids also visited the towns of Apalit, Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin and Sto. Tomas in the Fourth District; and Guagua, Lubao and Sasmuan in the Second District.
The elder Lapid, who recently declared his intention to run for the province’s gubernatorial post, said he and Mark personally pooled together the relief goods with support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Lapid said the floods that struck Luzon due to Typhoon Ondoy was reminiscent of the lahar inundation in Pampanga during his stint as governor.
In their visit to the flood-affected villages, the Lapids received warm welcome from residents, who patiently waited for the father and son duo.
Lapid said the relief operation should not be misconstrued as politicking since they have been consistently doing similar activities in the past.
“Lagi naman naming ginagawa ang ganito kahit noong gubernador pa kami,” Lapid said.
